“How we deal with our most challenging problems defines who we are as a community” Jan d’Ailly
In Waterloo Region we value tradition and diversity, qualities that make it possible to enjoy our rural heritage at the same time that we compete on the world stage. Let’s ensure that we protect what matters most as we move forward with a vision for economic vitality and quality of life for everyone.
Invest in Social Infrastructure
A stroll through just about any of our many 'neighbourhoods' will start to reveal the cracks in social services whether that’s affordable housing, addiction or mental health or policing. We must start re-building and re-inventing our Social Infrastructure so that no one is left behind and that we enhance our quality of life in the Region.
Drive Operational Excellence
Whether it’s public engagement or the day to day execution of customer service let’s ensure that the bureaucracy is responsive, nimble and cost effective. A key priority will be to review the strategic focus of regional operations.
Innovate for Environmental Sustainability
We all see and experience the impact of environmental degradation. We can make an impact as a Region to lead in environmental sustainability.
Leadership in Economic Development and Urban Planning
Waterloo Region is the tenth largest metropolitan area in Canada and a recognized world leader in innovation. We must continue to foster healthy and balanced growth that protects our community character while at the same time advancing Waterloo Region on the world stage.
Broaden Transportation Planning
The LRT is built. Let's ensure that we reap the benefits from the LRT investment by implementing a public transportation plan, including active transportation that extends to the whole region and not just the urban cores. This includes two-way all-day GO service.
Jan's experience as a successful global business executive, his record of achievement on Waterloo Council, his public service and his dedication to the community as a whole have all prepared Jan for the position of Regional Chair.
"Jan sets a Vision, engages stakeholders and gets things done."
Jan enjoys cross country skiing, having raced as a youth, and is often seen on the trails at Schneider’s Bush after a snowfall. He is a member of the Conestoga Sailing Club where he and Alannah and his son Hendrik participate in races and regattas, sailing his Wayfarer dinghy and enjoying club social events. He recharges by cycling and loves to garden. It’s always a good summer if he can get away for camping and canoeing.
