About Jan d'Ailly
I was born in the USA to Dutch parents. They moved to Mexico for a few years, then to Calgary and then to Montreal where I completed a BA in Economics at McGill University.
I then worked in Australia, South Africa and Taiwan, spending about a year in each country. Returning to Canada, I completed an MBA from the Richard Ivey Business School at Western and moved to Waterloo in 1991 when I started work at Babcock and Wilcox. Waterloo has become home.
I am the Commodore of the Conestoga Sailing Club and an active sailor. I learned to sail in Holland with my uncle, who was participating in the World Championships with the Flying Dutchman. I love to cross country ski and in my 20s skied competitively.
On the home front, I recently re-married. My wife Alannah and I share a home with my younger son Hendrik who attends WCI. My older son Jan is completing a Bachelor's degree at UW.
Many people have asked me about the name Jan d'Ailly. Jan is Dutch and pronounced "yon". d'Ailly is a French name and means "from the town of Ailly", a town in the Northeast of France. d'Ailly is pronounced "Dye-ee". The double L is silent.
